Gautama Buddha was a spiritual guru and religious leader who lived in India
Buddhism spoke of the eternity of life, equality between men & women, and the importance of wisdom and meditation.
Siddhartha Gautama was a prince who renounced his wealth and gave himself to meditation. His disciples named him "BUDDHA" means “awaken to wisdom”.
a. No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.
b. The mind is everything. What you think you become.
c. Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate on the present moment.
These are the basic teaching of Buddha that inspired me to paint an image of him meditating.
Acrylics colors on a canvas size or 60 cm X 40 cm were used in this painting. For background, multiple washes of colors were done. Usually, an artist goes from light to dark. But as an experiment, I went from dark to light. The biggest challenge was I had to wait longer to assure the paint is dried up completely.
The light is shown as emerging from the forehead, and slowly taking over the dark. Once the background was completely done and dried, I left the canvas untouched for a few days in sun. This caused the fading of the paint. Then the final black paint was used to paint the face outlines.
The result as shown is very satisfying.
